The General Council
The Bethlehem Mission Society is guided by the General Council which is elected at every General Chapter for a five-year period of office.
The Bethlehem Mission Society is a Society of Apostolic Life governed by a General Council composed of the Superior General, the Vicar General and three General Counsellors. They are elected every five years by the General Chapter, our supreme legislative assembly, which gathers delegates from every region and district of the Society to review its life, revise our Constitutions when needed, and conduct the elections of the Council.
The General Council directs the Society in fidelity to our Constitutions and to the decisions of the General Chapter, accompanies our regional and district superiors across Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe, and reports to the Holy See through the Dicastery for Evangelization. In every matter of importance — admissions to definitive membership, missionary appointments, ordinary and extraordinary administration — decisions are taken collegially, never by a single person.
For the term of office from 2023 – 2028,
the following members were elected:
Josef Meili (General Councillor), Ludovic Nobel (Superior General) and Emilio Näf (Vicar General).
