Our mission in Japan
Since 1954, SMB missionaries have been active in northern Japan through pastoral ministry, education, research, and social engagement, contributing to both the Church and society.
After the last missionaries left China in 1954, a group of them began missionary work in northern Japan. Since then, more than 30 members of the Bethlehem Mission Society have worked in pastoral ministry, while also conducting research and teaching at universities. During their time in Japan, they also built over a dozen churches and established and managed several kindergartens in the 1960s and 1970s.
The Japanese branches of Amnesty International, Justitia et Pax, and Life Line were founded in the missionary center built by SMB in Morioka.
