Episode 5 | Paul, the Prisoner

After returning from his third missionary journey, Paul goes to Jerusalem. It is there that he will be arrested. But why was he arrested? From Jerusalem, he was taken to Caesarea Maritima, where he was imprisoned. And finally, it is in Rome that Paul will be judged. How did it happen that he was heard by the emperor himself? Paul arrives in Rome, the capital of the world at that time. People sometimes speak of his fourth journey, but it was as a prisoner that he undertook this final journey. It is in Rome that Paul will die. The Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls is built on the apostle’s tomb. But how did he die in Rome? And when did he die? The Book of Acts, in chapter 28, ends with Paul preaching the good news of the Gospel in the city of Rome but tells us nothing of his death. Did he go to Spain for another missionary journey? Was he simply judged and condemned? These are the questions we will explore in our fifth episode of the series…
